NEW RIDER COURSE WHAT TO EXPECT

When you take a New Rider Course at the Riding Academy you'll;

Learn to ride on a genuine Harley-Davidson® motorcycle.

Get in-class and on-range instruction from Motorcycle Safety Foundation® (MSF) and H-D® Certified Coaches.

Learn to safely accelerate, shift, brake, and turn, along with maneuvers like controlling skids and surmounting obstacles.

Earn an MSF Basic RiderCourseSM Completion Card, which may (varies by state) exempt you from the riding portion of your license exam and score you a discount on motorcycle insurance.

Be at least 16 years old, and if under 18, hold a learner's license for one year with no traffic convictions.

NEW RIDER COURSE FAQS

WHAT WILL I NEED TO REGISTER?

You'll need a valid automobile driver's license or learner's permit, and have the ability to ride a bicycle.

Do I need any special gear? You'll need to bring the following:

  • A heavy, long-sleeve shirt or jacket
  • Jeans, chaps, or leather pants
  • Over-the-ankle, sturdy footwear
  • Full-fingered gloves
  • A helmet that meets DOT requirements
  • Eyewear

SKILLED RIDER COURSE (BRC2)

WHAT TO EXPECT

Take your riding to an all-new level with the Harley-Davidson® Riding Academy Skilled Rider Course. Created for experienced riders, it offers advanced tips and techniques that help you own the road.

The course runs 1 day and is built on the curriculum of the Motorcycle Safety Foundation® (MSF) Basic RiderCourse 2 Suite. It is taught by devoted MSF and H-D® Certified Instructors.

The course focuses on improving these skills:

  • Control at low speeds
  • Risk management
  • Limited space maneuvers
  • Cornering judgment
  • Swerving and stopping quickly on straights and in curves
  • Multiple curve maneuvers and surmounting objects

When you're done, you'll earn a MSF Basic RiderCourse 2 completion card that may qualify you for a discount on motorcycle insurance.

What bike will I ride?

For the riding portion, you will provide a street-ready motorcycle.

3-WHEEL BASIC RIDER COURSE (3WNRC) WHAT TO EXPECT

New to 3-wheel motorcycle riding? No worries. The 3-wheel New Rider Course is your gateway to 3-wheeled freedom. It’s designed to give you the skills to ride with confidence, whether you’re a first-time rider or it’s your first time on three wheels. The 3-Wheel New Rider Course is an entry-level, learn-to-ride 3-wheel motorcycle training and education course taught by MSF and Harley-Davidson Riding Academy Certified Coaches.

Total course time is approximately 18-20 hours, including classroom instruction, riding exercises on a practice track, and a knowledge and skill test.

You will need a 3-wheeled motorcycle. In some instances, your dealer can provide you with a bike to train on. Contact your dealer to see if they can provide a bike for the range sessions.

3W New Rider Course

Full refunds for two weeks prior to the class start date.

$50.00 processing fee for cancellations less than 2 weeks prior to class start date. (NRC)

NO Refunds for cancellations 24 hours or less prior to class start date. If you do NOT show up for the first session of your scheduled course or any other scheduled day, you will be considered as having withdrawn from the course and the course fee will not be refunded. If you are late on any day of your scheduled course and miss any unit or exercise you will be considered withdrawn and the course fee will not be refunded.

By state requirement, a student enrolled in New Rider Class has to attend all classroom units and must participate in all range exercises in order to qualify for the class M endorsement.

  1. If you leave or sit out any scheduled exercise or classroom unit for any reason other than medical, you will be considered withdrawn from the course by the Riding Academy coach and the course fee will not be refunded.
  2. If you provide a statement from your doctor that you cannot continue the course, Tallahassee Harley-Davidson. will offer, for one time only, another course to you at NO CHARGE for the New Rider Course during the same calendar year, depending upon availability. No refund will be provided. Please note that you have to start a new course from the beginning.
  3. Riding a motorcycle can be dangerous. If you are performing poorly and endangering yourself or other students, the coach may review your performance and recommend that you withdraw from the course. You may also voluntarily withdraw from the course if you do not feel comfortable enough to continue. Tallahassee Harley-Davidson, will offer to you, for one time only, the opportunity to take another course at NO CHARGE for the New Rider Course during the same calendar year. Please note that you have to start a new course from the beginning and it is limited to availability.
  4. You must provide all protective gear. This includes a DOT compliant helmet (we have a limited supply of helmets available to borrow), eye protection, full fingered gloves, long sleeved shirt or jacket, long pants, and over the ankle boots.
  5. May not be combined with any other offers or discounts. Non-transferrable, limited to students only.
  6. A veteran/military or first responder discount must apply to the person attending the class in order to receive the rebate. This is only applied with proof of status. This status can not be transferred to any person who is not veteran/military or first response.
